Frequently Asked Questions
Answering your questions to provide clarity and peace of mind. Feel free to contact us for anything not listed here.
Consultations & Fees
As a general rule, please make your request together with someone who can speak Japanese to some extent.
The initial consultation is free. We do not have a strict time limit, so please feel free to discuss your concerns thoroughly.
Yes, we are open on Saturdays. For Sundays, holidays, or night sessions, we can accommodate you with a prior appointment. We also offer on-site visits.
Our office does not accept consultations that are clearly not intended for hiring our services. The Legal Affairs Bureau provides guidance for those handling their own registration, so please utilize their services.
Inheritance & Wills
Inheritance cases vary greatly in complexity. Factors like the number of heirs, existence of missing persons, or heirs living abroad affect the required effort. We provide a tailored quote after the initial consultation. The minimum fee applies to standard cases where all required documents are readily available.
Starting April 1, 2024, inheritance registration is mandatory. Heirs must apply within 3 years of learning of the property acquisition. Past inheritances are also subject to this, so early action is recommended.
Yes. Tracing family history through old registries can be very tedious. We can handle the entire collection process on your behalf using our professional authority.
Real Estate Registration
You should receive "Mortgage Cancellation Documents" from your bank. The lien is not removed automatically; you must apply to the Legal Affairs Bureau. We can handle this application for you.
Usually, the application is filed on the same day as the payment and handover (closing). This prevents risks of other claims being registered first. We coordinate with real estate agents and banks for a smooth process.
Commercial & Corporate
Since we use electronic certification, the ¥40,000 revenue stamp for the Articles of Incorporation is not required. We also handle everything from drafting to filing, allowing you to focus on your business.
Yes. Generally, the registration date is the day of application. While typically limited to business days, we can schedule our filing to match your preferred auspicious day or anniversary whenever possible.
Family Trust & Guardianship
It depends on your goals. Family Trust is best for flexible asset management while you are still healthy. Guardianship is more formal and suitable if cognitive abilities have already declined. We can propose the best mix for your family.
It can be started as soon as the contract is signed, while you are still healthy. This ensures that assets are not frozen if dementia occurs later.
